The market for digitally printed textiles is growing rapidly year on year and Roland, our partners and customers are helping to drive this exciting and vibrant business forward.
Roland printing systems are used in two main ways to produce images on textiles, each method with obvious advantages for specific applications.*
Direct to textile printing is used in most display and exhibition applications. The fabrics are specially prepared and often presented to the printer on a disposable paper carrier. A huge variety of materials are available for creative applications such as drapes, flags, banners, meshes and soft signage of all types. In general direct to textile applications cannot be washed and have a limited short promotional life.

Sublimation printing uses a special paper and ink that allows the image to be transferred from the printed paper into the final fabric or substrate using heat and pressure. This creates a hardwearing, washable and flexible textile that can be used in garment manufacturing and durable items such as soft furnishing, carpets upholstery etc.
Sublimation techniques can be used for a host of other applications other than textiles such as product manufacturing, customising and prototyping.
