Packaging Printing with Digital Print Solutions

Packaging makes it possible to store, bulk handle, preserve, sell, and ship products without damage or loss of nutritional value. But it is not just functional: it’s also the first impression customers get about a product.

Packaging can tell a story, evoke feelings, and add value to products. Whether it’s a shampoo bottle, a packet of sweets, or a box for high-end luxury items, packaging matters. And because it matters, it needs to be done right.

Frequently Asked Questions

VersaWorks 6 is Roland DG's flagship RIP (raster image processor) software and it is included with the purchase of most Roland DG devices. We understand that many packaging professionals use industry-specific software, so we have ensured that our devices are compatible with your existing set-up. The most effective way to match colours accurately is to widen the achievable gamut with additional colours besides CMYK. Depending on the solution you choose, you could include red, green or orange inks and greatly enhance your ability to match brand colours, Pantones and other specific shades. This allows you to create realistic mock-ups which will accurately match the final product and satisfy your clients' briefs.

Depending on your needs, it's possible to print with a choice of ink types (like UV or Resin ink), using a direct print or a transfer-based system. You could print directly onto a leather item (like a wallet) using a flatbed UV solution, or you could print custom-designed patterns onto faux leather materials using a roll-to-roll Resin printer before an item goes into production. Solutions also exist to apply foil to leather for those wanting to add a more unique customisation service.

In contrast to traditional analogue presses and flexographic printers, digital printers let you produce packaging and labels in a matter of clicks. Provided the artwork is set up correctly, using the required spot colours if needed, the set-up process is fast and straightforward. Printing speeds will vary depending on the print quality setting and the amount of special ink data (like white or gloss) in the design, but even with highly complex files, these devices display remarkable productivity.
