Joe Wigzell in China

Back in March I had the opportunity to go to Roland DG in Shanghai for their RID event, prior to the APPPexpo – the largest sign and graphics exhibition in the world.

I was invited to present at the event along with my Italian counterpart (more or less) Giovanni Re. The event is similar to the Experience Days that we have run here and across Europe, but only half a day and this was the first time they had international speakers.

DG China are located within the same building as Alibaba (a huge mall), a bunch of textile and wholesale businesses…along with a Starbucks for those Monday mornings!

There was a huge function room that was used for the day! It was pretty intimidating but I was excited to be presenting and sharing ideas with such a large and new audience.

My presentation was titled ‘Better Business – Making Money with VersaUV’, and as you can tell the idea was to showcase how the VersaUV range of products are designed to help you make money.

The afternoon went really well, with around 320 people coming along, and the unveiling of the new GR series of cutters. We even had the chief engineer for the GR over from Japan.

The guys were all great out there, very kind, helpful and enthusiastic. Giovanni’s presentation was also fantastic, titled 1 image 100 applications. Hopefully I will recreate this for all of you in the near future.

Following the RID day we attended the APPPexpo, which was HUGE!

This was a great experience and another opportunity to learn, there was so much to see. Roland were present with dealers, with a lot of attention in particular to the TrueVIS, LEF and GR products.

Shanghai was a fascinating city, which transformed at night with the incredible illuminations!
