Halloween is a great time to get creative with your Roland equipment. From decorations to costumes to party invitations, there's no better opportunity to demonstrate both the tricks and the treats that are possible with your kit.
For retail applications, there's no end to the spooky fun you can have. Get started with window graphics, posters, staff costumes and POS and see where your imagination takes you. For Halloween 2018, Vinehall Displays turned an entire kiosk in Belfast's Europa Buscentre into a spooky haunted house, featuring a skull graphic, printed on a Roland SOLJET Pro 3, that imitated a shelf wobbler with red eyes lit up with LEDs.
Now there's even more scope to concoct creepy customised creations, thanks to the incredible TR2 inks designed for the new Roland TrueVIS VG2 printer/cutter series. The inkset features new Orange ink, the perfect colour for Halloween horrors. Print traditional pumpkins as natural-looking or as vibrant as you like, thanks to an entire Orange Color System Library stocked with around 130 new spot colour references for ultimate colour accuracy.
Labels for ghoulish potion bottles, frightening decorations, heat transfers for cute kids' costumes and creepy fake blood effects are all more easily printed with orange TR2 ink on TrueVIS VG2.
Alternatively, go more natural this season by printing colourful landscapes; the oranges and browns of autumnal trees have never been replicated so accurately. Orange also makes other colours more realistic. Giken, a user of a Roland TrueVIS VG2-540 based in Japan, has found that sunsets, grass and blue skies all look more natural and vivid thanks to Orange TR2 ink.
While orange is the bright, fun shade of Halloween, this holiday most definitely has a dark side. While engineers from MIT are said to have created the world's blackest black, you can achieve some incredibly rich, dark shades and smooth greys yourself using Roland eco-solvent printing systems like TrueVIS VG2.
Don't forget the creepy-crawly, textural elements of Halloween. What could be scarier than realistic blood-splatter effects, printed with Roland VersaUV gloss ink over a layer of rich red? Using these cool UV printers, you can produce genuinely spooky textures, like scaly reptile skin or shiny cobwebs, or add special effects to almost anything. Why not add a mysterious hidden message in matte gloss to party invitations, or customise masks with a dripping slime effect?
Roland printer/cutters and standalone vinyl cutters are also fantastic tools for producing stencils, rubber stamps, intricate cut-outs for decorations, spooky stickers and vinyl decals. Or, explore Roland dye-sublimation or direct-to-textile printers' brilliant potential to produce designs for inventive Halloween costumes, masks, zentai costumes or personalised T-shirts, or party decorations like curtains and flags.
Let your imagination lead you this Halloween – just don't have nightmares!
