In Your Face took its first steps into the difficult waters of business after a 20-year design career suddenly ended. Despite having no experience in the label and stickers market – nor funding or premises – owners Svetlana Kolpikova and Rafa Benavent bravely took the plunge into specialist graphics for sailing and watersports.
"We did not have any job prospects and believed that our own business was the only way to get ahead," explains Svetlana. "To complicate matters, at that time we could not get a loan from the bank and had to open our labelling business from the ground up in our rented apartment of 30sqm."
Since these origins in 2015, In Your Face – based in the sunny Canary Islands – has relied on a Roland printer/cutter.
"We chose Roland for its versatility; our printer/cutter allows us to consider many materials and tap into very different areas, from textile labelling to the labelling of boats and yachts," says Svetlana.
"It is very easy to have the equipment always ready to print. In addition, the cleaning routine and part replacement procedure is very fast."
In Your Face produces graphics for windsurfing sails – a tricky job owing to constant evolution of the materials used – plus windsurfing boards, skates, diving tanks, personalised clothing and more, with young windsurfers even getting in touch requesting support. The business is also involved in a new stand-up paddle race, La Misteriosa.
A major project involved turning around a labelling job for a competition boat in just 24 hours: every decal on the hull, boom and sail on the Olympic champion Fernando León's boat, the Phonemovil, had to be replaced – from the water. In Your Face is rightly proud to have completed this time-sensitive and complicated project, and of its success from difficult beginnings.
"We are proud of what we have done and how we have grown," says Svetlana. "No, we are not a giant company, but if we aren't heroes, who is?"
